ICE Free Auraria's Campus ICE Alerts System
Because of the refusal of Auraria Campus (AHEC) to create a plan for an alerts system to be used to confirm the absence or presence of ICE, we have created a community-run, CORRN-informed alerts system. You can be added to our list here. You can submit reports of campus ICE activity to us via email or text.
Our Confirmer Strategy
We have at least one person with access to our ICE alerts list on call at all times. Only those who have been trained by the Colorado Rapid Response Network (CORRN) as confirmers AND are part of our campus confirmer team have permissions to send a blast to those signed up to receive our alerts.
We have a dual strategy where we communicate with CORRN to ensure they have the most accurate information about any ICE activity on campus and we also inform the campus administrations and all who have signed up to our alerts list.
The purpose of confirming is to inform community about ICE presence and to confirm the absence of ICE presence when there is a rumor that ICE is present. We seek to minimize the number of false reports of ICE to decrease panic and to ensure that everyone is aware if ICE is on campus so that a community response may be mobilized and more vulnerable community members may make informed decisions about their presence on campus.
Why?
One of the violent things about immigration enforcement is the false alarms that ring out. Having an establihsed, trained team to confirm whether ICE is actually present is a tried and tested way to decrease false alarms and the harm caused by them. Auraria Campus refuses to implement a plan for student, staff, and faculty notification of campus ICE presence.
